We’ve all heard about the benefits of exercising countless times, but there is still something we always worry about in the back of our minds: what if we get hurt? There is no doubt that exercising in a way that isn’t correct can cause serious problems, sometimes even irreversible ones. However, there are ways to avoid that. That’s what we’re here to talk about today. How can you exercise without worrying about getting injured? Read on to find out!
Be Aware
It’s important to pay attention to the way certain exercises make you feel. If something hurts too much, for instance, you should stop doing it immediately. And, if it gets worse, seek medical help.
Warm-Up and Cool Down
There’s an important reason for this. Doing so helps prepare the body for the exercise and keep it from pulling something. With cooling down, you’re allowing the body to gradually go back to its normal state and begin the recovery process.
Pace Yourself
Don’t expect yourself to do a large amount of exercise every day right off the bat. Give yourself a recovery day at least once or twice a week.
Switch It Up
Try other sports and exercises to reduce the risk of overtraining.
Strap or Tape
If one of your joints is prone to injury, think about strapping or taping it before you exercise. The best thing to do in this situation is to see an exercise physiologist or a physiotherapist in order to come up with a program to strengthen the injured area.
Drink Water
For every hour of exercise, you can lose about one and a half liters of fluid, so make sure to drink water before, during, and after a session.
Keep an Eye on the Weather
If it’s really hot outside, take it easier, wear clothing and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements.
Do It Right
Make sure to work on your form and do it correctly. Doing an exercise wrong is a recipe for disaster.
Check Your Gear
Be sure to check everything from your shoes to equipment to see that everything fits properly and works correctly.
