Then And Now: Celebrities Who Lost Their Youth And Haven’t Improved With Age

Published on 02/08/2022

For most of us, life has never been kind. We may recall these celebs when they first appeared on TV, but they also experience hardships in life. No matter how much we avoid aging, we will all have to face it. As a result, we may not look as pretty as we were in our prime years. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Many of these stars still have a successful career in showbiz even though their looks have changed. It’s proof that aging will not affect your talent. From Val Kilmer to Johnny Depp, here are some aging stars who are almost unrecognizable!

Val Kilmer Then

Val Kilmer began his career on stage before moving into acting. In 1983, he made his television debut in an ABC Afterschool Special, alongside a teenage Michelle Pfeiffer. By the end of the decade, he’d starred alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun, and by the mid-1990s, Val Kilmer was deemed serious hot cash. In Oliver Stone’s blockbuster film about The Doors, he notably beat out INXS’ Michael Hutchence for the role of Jim Morrison. His performance in Heat with De Niro and Pacino is widely regarded as his best.

Although others have said that Val’s waistline has shrunk over the years, we think he still looks great for his era. Regrettably, he has vanished from the large and tiny screens. He shocked viewers with a sudden weight loss, stating on Twitter to be down to 165 pounds after years of gaining weight. Val’s career has come to an end. In reality, he’s been performing Citizen Twain, a one-person show written by him and starring only him. In 2012, he earned a Grammy Award for his spoken word work. Rumors of a Top Gun sequel may also serve as motivation to get back in shape. Val, you’re looking great!

Sally Struthers Then

When Sally Struthers portrayed Gloria Stivic, the daughter of Edith and Archie Bunker in Norman Lear’s pioneering sitcom All in the Family, she won over American hearts. She was not expecting to get the part since it has initially been offered to Candice Azarra, who portrayed Gloria in the pilot episode. Candice was quickly scrapped to make room for Sally. Gloria Struthers was noted for her blonde pigtails and stubborn demeanor while coping with her overbearing father. Sally’s life was smooth sailing from then on, when she rose to become one of America’s most famous television personalities.

It’s unrealistic to anticipate the years to be generous to everyone, but Sally hasn’t let her age deter her from functioning. She’s been a longtime supporter of the Christian Children’s Fund (now ChildFund), which helps hungry and impoverished children in developing countries. She also starred as Dolly in the 50th-anniversary production of Hello, Dolly! in 2014. In episodes about a hungry boy called “Starvin’ Marvin,” Struthers was satirized twice on South Park. The humor centers on Struthers’ overconsumption compared to her efforts to support those who are hungry, implying that she is hoarding food. She was reportedly upset by the characterization, something we can understand. Ignore the naysayers and keep doing your best self, Sally.

Mickey Rourke Then

In 1982, Mickey Rourke made his comedy debut in the film Diner. Though it didn’t entirely break new ground, his acting ability and ability to discuss the controversial subject matter in his positions propelled him to stardom in 1986’s 912Weeks and 1987’s Angel Core. Though mild by today’s standards, these films cemented his status as a sex icon alongside co-stars Kim Basinger and Lisa Bonet. On the other hand, Rourke realized that he’d had enough of acting and turned to box in 1991. When he was younger, he had practiced as a fighter. His boxing career was short-lived, lasting just three years.

When Rourke returned to acting after a career in boxing in the 1990s, he landed a few small parts. His fantastic skill encouraged him to work tirelessly, frequently playing misfits and misguided tough guys, despite his face being badly bruised from his time on the fight scene. Rourke didn’t have another significant supporting appearance until 2005’s Sin City. His success in The Wrestler won him a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Oscar nomination in 2009. He’s had a lot of cosmetic surgeries over the years and, as a result, is a handsome older guy.

Kathleen Turner Then

It was challenging to go to the cinema in the 1980s without seeing Kathleen Turner. She starred in films such as Body Heat, Romancing the Stone, Prizzi’s Honor, The War of the Roses, and Peggy Sue Got Married, all of which were hugely popular. Her smoldering good looks and seductive voice rendered her an ideal option for the part of femme fatale in Hollywood. During the decade, she earned the Golden Globe for Best Actress and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Kathleen Turner has little influence over her transition from a sex siren to a regular citizen. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the 1990s, which caused her excruciating discomfort, and tried to confine her to a wheelchair. Some critics were critical of the drug recommended for her recovery because it induced general weight gain and bloating. Turner, like so many other female actors, was pushed out of the spotlight, and her acting offers shifted from “star” to “mother” or even “grandmother.” Her arthritis has thankfully gone into remission in recent years, and she has starred in a variety of guest parts over the years, including Friends, Nip/Tuck, and Californication. We’re relieved that she’s looking and doing healthier.

Rupert Everett Then

In 1984, Rupert Everett received a BAFTA for his debut performance as Julian Mitchell in Another Nation. In a 1930s English school, he portrayed an openly gay student. He was known for portraying bad boys, and his smoldering good looks helped him land roles in films in the 1980s and 1990s. With his song, Generation of Loneliness, Everett attempted (unsuccessfully) to transform his celebrity into a music career as a pop star. But it was too late; the audience still saw him as a fantastic performer, and fans ignored his artistic projects. In 1997, for My Best Friend’s Wedding, he received his second BAFTA and his first Golden Globe.

There’s nothing wrong with Rupert’s current appearance because he no longer resembles the fresh-faced kid who once graced the silver screen. He is, though, still behaving as frequently as he once did. He appeared in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children this year and previously in the Shrek films and the Chronicles of Narnia. He’s also taken up fiction, having written two memoirs and a novel. He’s been vocal about various political and social topics, including decriminalizing prostitution and same-sex marriage. Clearly, there has always been more to this new Renaissance guy than what appears on the table.

Lara Flynn Boyle Then

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Twin Peaks was both a horror favorite and a big television success. David Lynch’s strange outlook on small-town living in the aftermath of the mysterious assassination of Laura Palmer caught the public’s imagination all around the country. Suppose there was a face to Twin Peaks, Lara Flynn Boyle, who played Donna Howard, Laura’s near friend who became fascinated with solving the crime, in both seasons of the show’s brief run. However, she did not reprise her part in the film sequel, and she has already declined a role in a new TV series set to premiere in 2017.

Like every other human who has aged through the years, Lara Flynn Boyle is no longer the sex siren of her childhood. Instead, she’s a well-dressed, distinguished-looking middle-aged lady who has put in some effort. It’s easy to see how a young beauty would feel pressured to keep their looks with surgical procedures as they get older. Lara made the best choice for herself, and she is in excellent shape for her generation.

Igor and Grichka Bogdanov Then

Igor and Grichka Bogdanov, French identical twin celebrities, began their careers as science television presenters in the 1970s, but their identities and social lives frequently overshadowed their jobs. The Bogdanov affair, in particular, called into doubt the validity of the theoretical physics articles they wrote and encouraged. The brothers remained in the public eye and were dubbed “heartthrobs” over time. Beginning in the late 1990s, viewers observed as their unique features changed drastically.

Axl Rose Then

Guns’n’Roses, fronted by the lithe and limber, controversial-but-not-just-for-wearing-bike-shorts-on-stage Axl Rose, became undisputed kings of complex rock music in 1987. “Appetite for Destruction” has shipped over 30 million copies worldwide, with the follow-up “Use Your Illusion” selling another 35 million. Rose was famous back then for sparking riots and tossing liquor bottles at fans during live shows, in addition to possessing an impressive vocal ability. However, the project quickly disintegrated due to personal disagreements. For a long time, the band went on hiatus before eventually launching the album “Chinese Democracy,” which did not sell as well as their label had hoped.

Jackie Stallone is best known for being the mother of actor Sylvester Stallone and singer Frank Stallone. On the other hand, her presence sparked much more media attention than is typical for a celebrity mom, and she has made several appearances on the TV interview circuit. In 2005, she also featured on Celebrity Big Brother in the United Kingdom. However, it’s understandable that anyone in the public spotlight might be concerned with their image. Stallone has had more than her fair share of cosmetic surgeries.

Mark Hamill Then

In the first Star Wars series, Mark Hamill, who portrayed Luke Skywalker, was a cultural figure who influenced generations of filmmakers. Mark’s Star Wars popularity didn’t always bode well for his future. “I don’t want Luke Skywalker in my video,” one producer said emphatically. Mark’s performance was too legendary for him to be quickly placed in other films, and he spent the rest of his career performing voiceover work. Many of the cartoon adaptations of the story from the last few decades included him as Batman’s wicked nemesis, the Joker.

Mark Hamill was ordered to hit the gym and regain some of his previous good-looking glory as Star Wars resurfaced for a sequel trilogy, and he was approached to reprise the part of Luke Skywalker. It succeeded, and he always sees it as the sex appeal he once was.

Catherine Bach Then

Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke in Dukes of Hazzard, was perhaps the most prominent sex icon of the 1980s. Throughout the season, she was known for wearing hot denim pants and looking alluring, and she served as a foil for the Duke brothers and their adventures fighting the hapless Boss Hogg and his underlings. Her legs were rumored to be insured for 1 million dollars at the height of her popularity. Have the stress. If you injure yourself when shaving, you might be prosecuted. Producers revived the part for a film, but this time it was Jessica Simpson who played Daisy.

Catherine Bach’s acting career took a turn for the worse during Dukes of Hazzard. The part had likely typecast her, excluding her from being cast in other shows or films. Another explanation is that she achieved all of her professional aspirations as an actress in the film business and desired to devote more time to her two children. Since then, she’s primarily acted in minor roles. She has, though, introduced her jewelry line with the Debenhams chain of stores in the United Kingdom. Peter Lopez, her ex-husband, committed suicide by shooting himself in April 2010.

She was a world-traveling young woman who honed her marksmanship and piloting skills along the way. She’s also notorious for blowing money like it’s water. She spent over $60,000 a year on personal phone calls, and her wine cost was more than half a million dollars a year! She’s sometimes recognized as “Catwoman” in the New York social scene, and she may be the poster girl on why cosmetic surgery isn’t necessarily the best option. According to a Vanity Fair interview, she claims the lynx has a beautiful vision. Friends claim she has one of the wild cats as a companion because this is her ultimate cosmetic goal/obsession.

Yet again, it’s those cosmetic doctors, and a pretty lady attempting to maintain her good looks is maimed. Marysol, her daughter, claims that her mother’s eyelid surgery in the 1980s “gave her hematomas on her eyes for like three years.” For everyone, that’s an exorbitant sum to pay for plastic surgery, and “Mama Elsa” is more known for her post-surgery condition than her heyday of beauty. Marysol claims that her mother was almost unrecognizable at that period and during her subsequent treatments, but she doesn’t remember Elsa getting a facelift at the time.

Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart was constantly churning around the men at the end of her life (at least according to the Spanish controversies sheets), but we suspect they were involved in anything more than her good looks by then. However, it did not succeed. Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart’s final lover (they were married from 2011 until her death) didn’t get a penny in her will, and he thought he was going to walk away rich. Fitz-James Stuart was also the father of six children and the grandfather of nine grandchildren.

Suzanne Somers rose to prominence after starring Chrissy Snow in Three’s Company; an American television series focused on the British series Man About the House. She portrayed Carol Lambert in Step-by-Step, cementing her reputation as one of America’s favorite sitcom stars, and her sultry good looks helped. Step-by-Step was on the air until 1998.

Suzanne Somers is always looking fantastic today, maybe even too good for a woman who is now 70 years old. She claims she hasn’t had some cosmetic surgeries, but it’s almost unlikely that she hasn’t had any work performed. She is, nonetheless, a strong supporter of holistic and complementary medicine, and she likely discovered the fountain of youth when reading one of her books on the subject. Somers is a two-time cancer patient who chose to go the holistic path following her first cycle of grueling procedures.

She was said to have been hurt when filming the episode, but she denies it. Nicole has since been in several Lifetime movies. Nicole also works as the owner and operator of an ice-cream semi, rare for a recent star. Scoops are the name of her business, and she is the one who drives the vehicle! In the years after she emerges as an artist, she’s had many legal and financial problems. Kim’s outrageous cosmetic surgery on her face is one of the most shocking modifications she has undergone. She doesn’t look much like the Lil’ Kim we all adored in the 1990s.

She seems to have had a failed facelift as well as heavy lip injections, according to several top cosmetic surgeons who have reviewed photographs of her everyday look. Her blonde brows aren’t exactly adding to the overall impact. She’s never been one to accept the natural look so that she could be pleased with the result. She’s confessed to using Botox in the past, but she usually attributes her skin and hair look to “tons of cream.”

Geena Davis Then

In the 1980s, Geena Davis was a trendy commodity. When Beetlejuice and then Thelma and Louise launched her to box-office superstardom, it looked that she could do no wrong. In the 1990s, you couldn’t turn around in a supermarket without seeing Davis and her ex-husband Jeff Goldblum on the cover of a magazine. The Fly, their reboot of the horror classic, is revolting. The only real blemish on the ointment was Renny Harlin’s flop Cutthroat Island, guided by her now ex-husband. They created the film precisely to help Geena establish her career. It turned out to be a failure, and she was almost sunk as a result.

The Olsen Twins

People who grew up in the 90s definitely loved the Olsen Twins. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are former child actresses who made their debut as infants playing Michelle Turner on the TV series, Full House. It was as though the duo became an overnight sensation…by the age of 6, the twins were starring together in various films and TV shows. Although they wanted the world to view them as two different individuals, it seemed as though the duo didn’t do anything without the other. In the mid-2000s, it was released that Mary-Kate had been dealing with many health issues, including anorexia. While on the other hand, rumors had begun circulating that Asjely had been involved in a drug scandal. It’s very clear that these personal difficulties took a huge toll on the Olsen Twins.

Macaulay Culkin

How can anyone forget the cute kid from Home Alone? Unfortunately, even though Macaulay Culkin is considered to be one of the most successful child actors from the 90s, he looks like nothing he did when he was younger. Culkin is also grown up now and hasn’t been doing much acting, instead, he has been performing in a pizza-themed parody band called “The Pizza Underground.” Not too long ago he was also arrested for substance abuse. Believe it or not, but Macaulay Culkin is indeed 40 years old… let’s hope the new father will age a lot more gracefully from here on out.

However, we still love him and adore his comedy.

He first gained recognition on The Young and The Restless, but later fans couldn’t get enough of him on the brilliant Knight Rider and Baywatch.
